Website Maintenance and Support
After launch, we make changes as you need them, keep dependencies and hosting current, and watch for errors and search problems. Work is billed hourly or as small projects, with no monthly retainer required.
What support covers
- Changes to content, pages, and features, as you need them.
- Updates to dependencies and frameworks, applied and tested before they ship.
- Monitoring of errors, and of Search Console for indexing problems after changes.
- Backups for sites and apps with a database, checked so they can be restored.
- Account housekeeping: domain renewals, DNS, and access for new or departing staff.
What a static site needs
Very little. A prerendered site has no plugins, database, or server to patch, so it can run for years untouched. Most support for these sites is content changes and the occasional new page.
What a web app needs
Apps with sign-in, a database, or integrations need regular dependency updates, error monitoring, and backups, and integrations need attention when the other system changes its API. We agree on what is watched and how quickly issues are handled when the app launches.
How it is billed
Hourly or as small projects, with no monthly retainer required. Hosting and other services are billed to you directly by the providers, in your own accounts. See pricing.
Frequently asked questions
- Do you maintain sites you did not build?
- We take on custom sites and apps after a short review of the code and hosting. For WordPress sites, we usually recommend a migration over ongoing plugin maintenance, and say so when it is cheaper.
- Do I need a maintenance plan?
- Not for a static site. For a web app with users and a database, regular updates and monitoring are worth agreeing on, sized to how much the app matters to the business.
- Can another developer take over later?
- Yes. The code is documented, the accounts are yours, and the custom code is yours once paid for, so you are never tied to us for support.
